After cleaning a barrel, i slightly oil the first patch i use. The oil helps pick up and hold residue. All other patches are 100% dry. Oiling the bore is for storage purposes only. This will inhibit rust corrosion from occuring while the gun is in the safe, sock, soft case, or however you store it. Before shooting, you want to run a dry patch down the bore to remove any. You don’t want to leave a significant amount of oil residue on your gun barrel. Excessive oil could impede its ability to fire. Instead, run a lightly oiled patch through the barrel.
